(I feel after the nasty things I said about him on HOJ, I owe him an apology and some respect with this).

While I still can't stand Saw III and am a little "meh" on Saw IV, I still adore Saw II and hope one day Darren can create another movie that's on par with it. The Saw series has an identity of it's own thanks to him and his contributions to the series which helped it to take off and become it's own flagship series.

REPO!!!!!

Have you seen it? It's amazing!

And he cares a lot about the Saw and Repo community

I met him at the REPO premiere in Montreal and I talked to him for a good 10 minutes. He didn't make me think he was too busy to talk to me and he didn't seem to be in a rush! He was asking as many questions as I did Smile

I haven't seen Repo yet, but will probably give it a watch one of these days. One to rent for sure, I haven't rented movies in so long.

Yeah I usually BUY my movies because I like to own them... but with the current economy I started renting them again...

but anyways...

I think of James Wan as a really story-focused director

I think of Darren as a director who thinks a LOT about the small details and the style of the movies

I think of David as a director who wants to give a good VISUAL show.

From a purely technical standpoint, I'd say James Wan is the better director.

And from a personal preference in style, I'd still say James Wan is the superior director. He grabs your attention really easily and knows how to set the mood in a scene. He makes you forget about the cameras and completely IMMERSES you in the movie. I love this.

I think James is the best director of the series by far, but both DLB and David added a lot as well. And Darren deserves some serious accolades for sticking with Saw three years in a row and doing the sequels he did, with IV being a film he didn't even want to do. That's some serious dedication right there, and shows he cares for the series.

Yeah he probably had to put up with a LOT of pressure during those three years... 3 movies in 3 years... it's kind of amazing when you think about it.

When did he rest? He seems to have a lot of energy all the time...

Maybe he's drinking a lot of Red Bull Laughing

I just hope he and the producers are on good terms, Dan Heffner seems to have an axe to grind with him silent

Well I've seen a few recent pics of him with people from the Saw crew.

But I think he MIGHT be pushing the envelope a little too far when talks about REPO and says things like "FUCK the studio that's trying to keep us from showing the movie to more people, it's YOU the fans that matter and we'll continue to provide ORIGINAL content to you!"

He said that at the REPO premiere zD

I don't entirely agree some of what he makes is for the fans even though I know he makes his movies out of the goodness of his heart to please them, but I'm sure the studio has been a nuisance for the production teams and himself many times.

I completely agree... judging by what he says it's probably correct too...

It doesn't help the studio cranks out a new sequel every year and doesn't really give the crew that much prep time, either.

I can't imagine how Darren directed 3 of these movies considering how little time each movie gets in pre production, principle photography and post production. It's all pushed through so fast...

Darren endured it all for us, regardless of how some of us feel about the finished results.

DLB gave the series it's own identity and helped to establish it as a Horror heavyweight. While James Wan laid the groundwork with the first movie, DLB was the one who really built from it.

I personally prefer DLB's work in the SAW series over James's, and am very thankful for the amount of effort he put into the series while under as much pressure as he was to make deadline. Thanks Darren Smile

I can't imagine the kind of stress and frustration DLB must've undergone when filming II-IV three straight years in a row. I notice from the DVD featurettes he seems to have a fued with Dan Heffner, why does Dan dislike Darren so much or have an axe to grind with him? I never understood it, and Darren stuck around for the films he did because he cared and didn't just want it to fall into the hands of someone who didn't care. While I may not agree with some of what Darren has said or some of his choices, he does deserve huge accolades for sticking with the series as long as he did.
